The Problem with Fast Fashion

SOCIAL IMPACT

• 300 million people work in sweatshops worldwide, 250 million of which are children under 14

• Children are forced to work for up to 16 hours a day, sometimes getting paid as little as one cent per hour

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

• 93 billion cubic meters of water go to the fashion industry yearly, enough to satisfy the needs of 5 million people

• Our natural resource usage has more than tripled from 1970-2010 due to our society’s never-ending product consumption

These statistics highlight the importance of a circular fashion industry*, and the first step to achieving this goal is individual action. 

*Circular Industry: waste + pollution are reduced as products and materials are reused, recycled, and kept in use for as long as possible.
